El Principito es un libro muy especial para mi, y no sólo porque me gusta muchísimo, sino también porque el colegio al que fui desde los 5 a los 18 años se llama El Pequeño Principe.
Hace poco el director me pidió que colaborase reinterpretando mi pasaje favorito del libro para decorar la fachada de la guardería. Fue un reto por dos razones: una, tenía que pintar una tabla gigante (no suelo trabajar sobre madera y no me gustan los formatos grandes), y dos, ¿cómo se ilustra un libro que ya está ilustrado?
Por eso, decidí pintar una escena que no aparece en el libro de forma literal... Si habéis leído El Principito entenderéis porqué. ¡Espero que os guste!
P.D: Muy apropiadamente, el tema de la semana en Illustration Friday es "espacio".

The Little Prince is a special book for me. Not only because I really like it, but because it's actually the name of the school I went to since I was 5 until I was 18.
Not long ago, the director of the school asked me to paint my favorite scene of the book to decorate the facade of the preschool. It was a challenge for two reasons: one, I had to paint a huge plank (I don't usually paint on wood, plus I hate working in big formats), and two, how to illustrate a book that is already illustrated?
It's impossible to think about Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's words without thinking about his illustrations too. The Little Prince's images are really strong, and it's difficult to compete with them (although some people have done a great job, like Ana Sender or David Pintor).
That's why I decided to paint a scene that doesn't appear literally in the book... If you read The Little Prince you will understand why. Hope you like it!
P.S.: Funny enough, this week's topic in Illustration Friday is "space".
